Countdown to release day!
This Friday! December 15th! Surplus 1980's new album, "Illusion of Consistency" will be released! The LPs are still in transit from the manufacturer, so if you ordered an album, they will get shipped as soon as they are received. If you preordered the album digitally, it will be available to you in its entirety on Friday as the clock strikes 12.

Hear "Illusion of consistency" on the San Francisco Library's new Bay beats streaming service!
Surplus 1980 is honored to have been chosen for "Bay Beats," a newly-implemented music streaming service from the San Francisco Public Library that features local Bay Area talent. The new service launches TODAY (Oct. 28)! Anyone around the world can listen!
What does that mean to you? Well, YOU get exclusive access to listen to Surplus 1980's brand new full-length album, "Illusion of Consistency" six weeks in advance of its official release!
In conjunction with the launch of Bay Beats, PRE-ORDERS for "Illusion of Consistency" (digital and/or vinyl LP!) can be placed on the Surplus 1980 Bandcamp page! (see link below!)
All preorders include an immediate download of two tracks, with digital delivery of the full album on its release date (slated to be appx. Dec. 15). Physical LP orders will be shipped shortly thereafter.
The deluxe and limited-edition vinyl LP is being pressed on clear & orange vinyl, and will include a CD version of the album, *and* a download card, so no matter what way you access music, you can listen!

SURPLUS 1980 TO OPEN FOR SLEEPYTIME GORILLA MUSEUM IN MARCH & APRIL
Surplus 1980 is thrilled to announce that we will be supporting Sleepytime Gorilla Museum (Moe Staino's Alma Mater) for three shows on their 2024 reunion tour! Surplus 1980 will appear at the Bluebird Theatre (Denver, Mar. 7), the Stanley Hotel (Estes Park, Mar. 8), and the UC Theatre (Berkeley, CA, Apr. 6) Additionally, Moe & Melne's performance art piece, "Melon/Staino Trio" will appear at the second Estes Park date (March 9).

SURPLUS 1980 CHOSEN TO PLAY AT SF WEDNESDAYS OUTDOOR CONCERT
On Wednesday, October 6th, Surplus 1980 will be playing a free show from 12-2pm at the Mechanics Monument Plaza (near the corner of Bush & Market) in San Francisco. The show is a part of the SF Wednesdays concert series that aims to reactivate San Francisco's downtown area. Stop by for a powerful Post-punk/Post-rock/Post-lockdown Rockdown! We'll perform our newly composed instrumental suite twice, once at noon, and once at 1pm. See you there!

The Lockdown Festival reconvenes. A host of diehards and experimentalists join for an online festival, streamed from Temescal Arts Center. Lockdown Festival VI promotes music of purpose at a time of continued - but hopefully soon-to-be-ending - strife.

PAN-DAMN-IC! ALL SHOWS CANCELLED --but--
SURPLUS TO RECORD A NEW ALBUM REMOTELY!
Despite the pandemic shutting down all opportunities for live music, Surplus 1980 is forging ahead with a new album. The band will be recording remotely, at each member's home. This offers the unique opportunity to collaborate with musicians far and wide, so Surplus 1980 will be joined by many of our musical friends and family. Moe recorded drum tracks, and then will be sending them to each band member in turn to add their own creativity. It will be fascinating to see how the music turns out! Hopefully the album will come out sometime next year.

SURPLUS 1980 COLLECTIV ENSEMBL with GW Sok to perform at Bottom of the Hill!
Surplus 1980 collaborator GW Sok will be here in the United States and will be joining the Surplus 1980 Collectiv Ensembl to perform the songs from the "Forget All This" album! Joining Surplus on the bill is a reunion of Victim's Family! Tickets are available in advance at the Bottom of the Hill website.

KALX LIVE! to host Surplus 1980 on August 3
playing selections from "Pigeon Obstacle Course"
Surplus 1980 will be making a radio appearance on KALX Live! with DJ Cia Cia La Pirata on KALX, 90.7 FM on Saturday, August 3. The band will be playing the majority of their new album, "Pigeon Obstacle Course" live in the studio, and then sitting down with DJ Cia Cia La Pirata to delve into the latest news and upcoming appearances by the band. Locals can tune in directly at 90.7 on their FM dial, and fans from further away can listen in on KALX's live stream on their website.

Late Spring Release!SURPLUS 1980 COLLECTIV ENSEMBL TO RELEASE ALBUM
Marking Surplus 1980's second collaboration between King Champion Sounds vocalist/lyricist, G.W. Sok, the Surplus 1980 Collectiv Ensemble will be releasing their first album in late Spring 2019. This album is the result of a 2016 recording session that included all former and current members of the band, as well as every collaborator in the history of the band. Once the music was completed, it was sent to G.W. Sok, who added his lyrics and vocals. The single will be released at the end of February, 2019, on Italy's Music a la Coque records.

New Record releasing February 2019 on Tractor NotownSURPLUS 1980 TO RELEASE SPLIT 7" SINGLE WITH KING CHAMPION SOUNDS
Surplus 1980 is happy to announce its upcoming song on the "International Static Split 7" release with Netherlands-based King Champion Sounds. The single will be released at the end of February, 2019, on Tractor Notown records.
Surplus 1980's song is an instrumental track recorded at the same sessions as the upcoming full-length album, "Pigeon Obstacle Course," and includes only three of the Surplus members, Moe Staiano, Melne Murphy and Bill Wolter, plus two special guests, Kristen Augusten on trombone and Joshua Marshall on Tenor Saxophone.
King Champion Sounds are a 7-piece Anglo/Dutch band and is likened to “a mix of The Fall, Can, Sun Ra, Captain Beefheart, Public Image Ltd, King Tubby.
